Authorities have released the name of the man who got into a shootout with police in Cartersville Sunday.

37-year-old Shane Jacquez Barfield of Cartersville is charged with three counts of aggravated assault against a peace officer and single counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, theft by receiving a stolen firearm, and possession of methamphetamine.

According to a Cartersville Police Department news release:

Officers responded to the area of Highway 41 and Market Place Boulevard in reference to an accident.

While en route, witnesses reported that a man was walking in the roadway with a gun.

When officers arrived on the scene, the man began shooting and officers returned fire.

No one was struck by gunfire and police were able to take the man into custody.
