A strong storm moved through the Floyd County area Thursday evening, causing significant damage in the Celenese neighborhood.

Several trees and large limbs were brought down, damaging homes and blocking roadways.

Power lines were also damaged, leading to widespread outages. A downed power line and a tree closed the roadway in front of Mercy Care Rome.

Georgia Power reported that more than 2,000 customers in the area were without power due to the storm.

The outages extended beyond Celenese to parts of North Broad, including Calhoun Avenue, Kingston Avenue, Atteiram Heights, Bells Ferry Road, and Martin Luther King Boulevard.

With the exception of Celenese neighborhood residents, the Rome Police Department asked the public to avoid the area until the roadways could be cleared.
