-Staff reports-

There will be plenty to see and do this weekend during the Emergency Services Expo.
The event is Saturday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the East Rome Walmart.
“The fire department is going to be there and they are going to be doing some training,” said Chris Fincher with Floyd County Emergency Management. “AdventHealth is going to be teaching community-based CPR, which is hands-on. No respiration, it’s going to be compressions only. That’s the way to go when it comes to community-based CPR. It encourages people to go and be able to do CPR. There is some discomfort in giving the breaths and the respirations, so the compressions really help.”
Attendees will also be able to learn about wound care.
“Atrium has got pool noodles and they are going to be teaching people how to use a tourniquet and how to stop a bleed,” Fincher said. “We’re not going to go into the nitty-gritty of first-aid and how to pack a wound, but we are going to teach you how to do a simple tourniquet.”
Georgia Power will have a bucket truck there and will be talking about power line safety.
“The DNR [Department of Natural Resources] is going to have their boat there,” Fincher added. “The fire department is going to bring out a quint and an engine from Station Three.”
EMA volunteers will be giving away free weather radios to Floyd County residents, which will be first-come, first-served served. Please bring your driver’s license as proof you are a Floyd County resident.
