Cartersville Fire Department responds to fatal incident at Qcells Facility

Monday, May 20, 2025–6:45 p.m.

-Cartersville Fire Department News Release-

At around 7:15 p.m. on May 19, Cartersville Fire responded to Qcells for a medical emergency.

A mid-30s Hispanic male was found on top of a tank with no pulse and not breathing.

CFD crews used SCBAs and air monitoring while accessing and removing the patient from the tank.

The oxygen level at the top of the tank was around 15%, a level too low to survive.

The patient was removed from the top of the tank by CFD personnel and pronounced deceased by the deputy coroner.

The cause of death is under investigation.

A nitrogen leak is a possible cause as no other chemicals or gases are being used in the area.

No further information is available at this time pending further investigation from other involved agencies
