Georgia Highlands College (GHC) has officially launched one of the most significant renovation projects in the institution’s history. This summer marks the beginning of a campus revitalization at the Floyd Campus, headlined by a nearly $12 million renovation of the Lakeview Building—home to GHC’s high-performing Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs.

The Lakeview Building renovation was included in Governor Brian Kemp’s most recent slate of strategic investments to expand healthcare education across the state. In addition to this major project, several other facilities across the Floyd Campus will undergo substantial improvements, including a comprehensive landscaping enhancement to create a more welcoming and modern campus environment.

The investment comes at a time when the need for well-trained healthcare professionals is growing rapidly across Georgia. GHC’s Nursing and Dental Hygiene graduates boast a 96% first-time pass rate on the NCLEX-RN and a 100% pass rate within the first year, as well as 100% career placement.

“More than 84% of all GHC graduates begin their careers in Northwest Georgia,” said GHC President Mike Hobbs. “It’s essential for us to maintain and improve our learning facilities with top-notch training so our community receives the best, most well-prepared healthcare workforce. These renovations are critical in helping us meet local and regional workforce demands all while advancing career-ready graduates into the workforce with little to no debt upon completion.”

President Hobbs credited the governor and local legislators for their unwavering support to meet the local and regional workforce needs through GHC’s exemplary healthcare programs with one of the lowest tuition costs in the state and country.

“We have so many supporters in the Georgia General Assembly, but I want to personally thank Representatives Matthew Gambill, Katie Dempsey, Mitchell Scoggins, and Senators Chuck Hufstetler and Ed Setzler for their tireless support of higher education, Georgia Highlands College, and our community,” President Hobbs said. “As part-time legislators, they balance full-time careers and family while serving as advocates for our region, and it’s been an honor to work alongside them.”

With construction now underway, the upgrades to the Floyd Campus will ensure GHC continues to serve as a leader in workforce development and healthcare training for many years to come.
