Man charged with conversion of payments for real property improvements

A Trion man was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Thursday on a felony count of conversion of payments for real property improvements.

According to an arrest warrant:

On December 24, 42-year-old John Paul Ramsey sent a $40,000 invoice to the victim for services he would perform, and $20,000 was paid.

Previously, on April 22 of last year, he had sent a $60,000 invoice for an HVAC installation and was paid $30,000 and hired a subcontractor to do the work.

However, Ramsey never paid the subcontractor.

The victim had to pay $16,000 to the company to remove a lien from his property.

Woman charged with felony shoplifting

A West Rome woman has been arrested on felony warrants charging her with theft by shoplifting after allegedly stealing more than $1,700 in merchandise from Walmart on Redmond Circle.

According to the warrants:

36-year-old Lakita Daniell Montgomery exchanged the price tags from some items with the tags of others and failed to scan the higher value items at the self-checkout.

The felony count occurred on five different occasions between April 24 and May 11, totaling $648.42.

The second occurred between May 13 and June 19 on seven different occasions, totaling $594.26.

The third felony occurred on April 18 and involved $598 in merchandise.
