The Rome-Floyd County Drug Court recently recognized nine new program graduates.

The drug court is a post-plea accountability court designed for non-violent, substance-abusing offenders as an alternative to incarceration.

Titus Allen remembered that on his way to prison, a deputy noted that his family truly loved him and cared for him. That observation stuck with him through his release and recovery. He thanked his parents and family for being there through the hard times and promised better times to come.

The program is built upon a unique partnership between the criminal justice system and addiction disease treatment providers.

The partnership is one that structures treatment intervention around the authority and personal involvement of a single judge.

The goals of the drug court include reducing costs associated with criminal case processing, recidivism, and jail overcrowding while introducing participants to an ongoing process of recovery and promoting self-sufficiency.
