Man facing charges following a crash in the Coosa area Wednesday

A Centre, Alabama, man is facing charges following a crash in the Coosa area on Wednesday morning.

According to a Floyd County Police Department report:

A patrol officer was on Alabama Highway near Emerson Drive when he observed a vehicle traveling 82 in a 45 mph zone.

There was another vehicle behind the first one, going 110 mph.

He activated his blue lights to conduct a traffic stop.

At that time, he was informed that another officer had stopped the other vehicle, a dark-colored Ford Ranger, driven by 28-year-old Brandon Christian Black of Centre, Alabama, who was cited for speeding and reckless driving and let go.

Meanwhile, the other vehicle had blacked out by turning off the taillights in an attempt to flee from law enforcement.

The officer lost track of the vehicle in a curve approaching Westhaven Drive and discontinued the pursuit.

Shortly thereafter, a wreck with injuries involving a white Nissan Frontier was dispatched over the radio on Woods Road.

The driver was identified as 31-year-old Travis Dakota Black, also of Centre, Alabama.

A passenger was identified as James Smith.

After Travis was treated by EMS at the scene, he was taken to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center.

After being medically cleared, he was taken to the Floyd County Jail on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, and no tag light.
