As the 2026 Bike Ride Across Georgia pedals on, local officials are happy with the event that rolled into Rome and Cave Spring earlier this week.
Around 1,000 cyclists spent the night in Rome on Sunday before heading to Cave Spring, where they stayed overnight on Monday.
“I came through Cave Spring in the evening, and there were just bike jerseys everywhere,” said Chris Fincher with Floyd County Emergency Management. “Cave Spring is the perfect place for an event like that. It’s got a village atmosphere, and everything is within walking distance—all the shops are there—plus you’ve got the park. I live down that way, and I’ve never appreciated the value of having all those places and all those venues available in one spot. The folks at BRAG did a really good job of renting out spaces. They do this enough that they’ve got a good idea of what needs to occur. I spoke with some of their organizers, and they had really good plans in place.”
The cyclists also enjoyed their time here.
Betty Murphy, who will turn 76 next month, has participated in the Big BRAG for 37 years.
She told WRGA’s Nolan Hiott that Rome is one of the best stops along the route.
“We were here last year, and we have been here many times,” she said. “Rome is so well laid out, and it’s easy to get anywhere for us to walk. We love the bridge, and camping is on the other side of the bridge. There are people staying in the gyms here.”
After a rest in Carrollton on Wednesday, the cyclists are headed to Fayetteville, home to Trilith Studios, formerly known as Pinewood Studios.
From there, they head to Lagrange on Friday.
The ride concludes on Saturday in Columbus.
