The Rome City Commission is expected to approve an equipment purchase for the new reverse osmosis water treatment facility when it meets on Monday.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division Drinking Water Permitting and Engineering Unit
has reviewed a Pilot Study Plan and Results Report submitted by Insite Engineering for pilot testing of PFAS reduction.
The City of Rome piloted the Direct Cloth Media Disk Filtration – Aqua Aerobics Systems, Inc., as pre-treatment and Aqua Aerobics Systems Multi Bore C-Series Ceramic Membrane System followed by ROTEC Flow Reversal Reverse Osmosis System for PFAS removal at their plant.
After review, the Pilot Study Report and Test Results Report were concurred by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division Drinking Water Permitting and Engineering Unit for certain requirements.
Rome is constructing the new facility using funds received in a settlement with carpet manufacturers, chemical companies and others regarding PFAS contamination in the Oostanaula River, impacting the city’s water supply.
Also on Monday, the commission will consider the awarding of a contract for the Enterprise Corner Water Extension, just off Highway 411 at Bass Ferry Road.
TJL Construction is the low bidder at just under $3.5 million.
Money for the expansion was included in the 2023 special purpose, local option sales tax.

Millage rate set to be adopted
The Rome City Commission is expected to adopt the millage rate on Monday following two more public hearings.
The combined rate of 26.25 includes 8.250 for city maintenance and operations. 2.0 for city capital and 16.00 for city schools.
The overall millage rate will not be increasing, but with the growth in the tax digest, it is still considered an increase of 1.4% over last year.
The first public hearing will take place during a called meeting on Monday at 10 a.m.
The second will take place during Monday’s regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
Both meetings will be held at Rome City Hall.
