Plans for a proposed data center at the Battey Business Complex in West Rome have been axed.
Rome-Floyd County Development Authority Chair Jimmy Byars confirmed to the Rome News-Tribune that Atlas Development had ended its agreement with the development authority.
No reason was given.
In August of 2025, the development authority signed a term sheet to sell the Battey Business Complex in a deal worth $5.7 million for the remaining 100 acres of the North Division Street site.
The data center plan was opposed by a number of residents, primarily those who live in the Summerville Park neighborhood.
The news comes as Floyd County is getting ready to consider new development regulations regarding data centers.
There will be a public hearing and vote on the new regs during the commission’s August 25 meeting.
