A popular annual event that brings in dog lovers from all over is this weekend.

Schnauzerfest Rome is this Saturday downtown.

“The parade will kick off at 11 a.m. on Broad Street,” said Kristi Kent with the Georgia’s Rome Office of Tourism. “You can go pretty much anywhere on Broad and see the adorable little Schnauzers. There are giant Schnauzers, mini-Schnauzers, all all-sized Schnauzers that will be in the parade, and they will be dressed up, along with their owners. They have a contest right before they start the parade, so they are dressing up for prizes.”

The Forum opens to the public at 1:00 p.m.

“They will open it up because they will be doing agility contests and some other contests with the Schnauzers, and that is free to the public,” Kent said. “Later in the afternoon, at about 5 o’clock, they will have “Halloween Town,” a family-friendly Halloween movie, and of course, you can bring your Schnauzers in with you.”

Meanwhile, just around the corner from the Forum, a 60th anniversary celebration for Chiaha will be taking place at the Rome Area History Center, starting at 11 a.m.

“They are going to have a whole slew of vendors and activities going on,” Kent added. “So, that will be something fun to kind of break up that time between the parade and going into the activities at the Forum. The event at the history center will run until 4 o’clock. They have done a great job with their special exhibit downstairs. It kind of brings in that Chiaha Festival vibe.”

Plans for the future of the Chiaha Arts and Crafts Guild are expected to be discussed during the celebration.
