Rome and Floyd County will honor their fallen heroes on Friday.
The 2026 Peace Officers Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. at the Call To Duty Memorial Plaza at the former joint law enforcement center in Downtown Rome.
During the ceremony, the names of all law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty will be read.
“Our 21st law enforcement officers will be enshrined,” said Floyd County Commissioner David Thornton. “It’s a Berry College Police Officer—Jeff Smith, who died during Covid.”
The service will be held rain or shine — attendees are encouraged to bring an umbrella if needed.
Please be aware that streets surrounding the memorial area will be temporarily blocked before and during the service to allow for pedestrian traffic and ensure the safety of attendees.
The community is invited to stand with the local law enforcement agencies to pause and remember those who gave everything in the line of duty, showing their sacrifice will never be forgotten.
