A shooting occurred in Cartersville this morning, as a man pointed a gun at a McDonalds employee. Hours later, the man was fatally shot in a nearby parking lot after attempting to shoot a deputy.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation
31 year old Markus Maurice Williams pointed a gun at a McDonalds employee at 6:30 in the morning from the drive through window. After which 911 was called and a Bartow Coutny Sheriffs deputy arrived at the McDonalds off of Frank Harris Parkway, SE in Cartersville. The deputy later located Williams in a nearby parking lot, still holding the gun. The deputy gave Williams commands but Williams did not comply. Williams then leveled the gun at the deputy and fired. Returning fire, the deputy shot Williams. Later Williams was taken to a hospital where he passed.
An autopsy has been confirmed to be conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. An aspect of the investigation that is still largely active and ongoing.
