The GBI is continuing its investigation into the recent death of an inmate at the Gordon County Jail.
Last Thursday morning, 26-year-old James Pierce of Plainville was found unresponsive in his cell by jail staff.
Emergency medical personnel were summoned and responded quickly to the scene, but Pierce did not survive.
The Sheriff’s Office has requested an independent investigation into this death by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which is standard procedure in any in-custody death.
